Each year 911³Ô¹Ï’s Office of Undergraduate Research awards one faculty member the Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor Award. To be chosen, a mentor must have shown not only passion for research but also extraordinary dedication to their students. This year’s outstanding undergraduate research mentor award winner is Carl Saint-Louis, an assistant professor of organic chemistry in the College of Science and Mathematics.

Kennesaw State to launch Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences in Fall 2027

Building on its leadership in scientific research and education, 911³Ô¹Ï on Wednesday received approval from the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia to launch a new Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences. The program will begin in Fall 2027 on the Kennesaw Campus. Housed in the College of Science and Mathematics, the degree will help meet the increasing demand in Georgia and the nation for research scientists in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and ecology.

Hosted this year on Kennesaw State’s Marietta Campus, the traveling systemwide competition is designed to spotlight creativity, strategic thinking, and entrepreneurial talent from the USG’s 25 member institutions.

Associate professor leverages Fukushima research to advocate for farmers post-disaster

In 2016, 911³Ô¹Ï researcher Daniel Ferreira traveled to Japan to study radioactive contaminants in farmland soil, five years after the tsunami and Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster transformed the region’s environment forever. As a researcher focused on ions at the mineral‑water interface and their role in soil health, the trip proved invaluable, giving him a real‑world application for his work. Years later, though, Ferreira reflected on an experience in meeting Fukushima’s farmers, away from the research sites and goals of his travels.
